The 2014
NBA season is about to come to its and the exciting period of the playoffs will
begin. This year, there is no obvious favorite for the NBA Championship. A
bunch of title contenders will have to fight chest to chest in the West, with
the San Antonio Spurs, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Los Angeles Clippers
currently being considered as the favorites. In the East, the Miami Heat and
the Indiana Pacers are the two strongest favorites, but teams like the Brooklyn
Nets or the Chicago Bulls could post serious trouble to those two powerhouses.
Several stories are drawing interest as of lately in the NBA.
The Philadelphia 76ers
tied the Cleveland Cavaliers for the most consecutive losses in a season, with
26, but then manage to avoid setting a new negative record. As of recently, the
San Antonio Spurs won their 18th game in a row and set a new
franchise record. The Indiana Pacers are struggling on the offensive end and
their chances for the title are now questionable.
On top of
that, we’ve seen some players over performing this season, with Goran Dragic,
and Al Jefferson being the two best examples, perhaps even Joakim Noah during
the second half of the season. On the other hand, we had some major star
injuries, like Derrick Rose’s season ending one. Russell Westbrook has also
been battling through injuries. Chris Paul missed a big chunk of the season but
he is now back and ready to lead the Los Angeles Clippers all the way till the
NBA Finals, together with Blake Griffin. Dwyane Wade has been in a maintenance
mode in Miami but he also is expected to be at his 100 percent come playoff
time.
